Install Active Vehicle Barrier System at Fort Greely, Alaska
Location: Delta Junction, Alaska
Highlights: PSP designed and installed a series of measures to allow for proper operation of the AVB in Fort Greely’s harsh winter environment. PSP’s design included an innovative induced airflow system to prevent frost heave, a heated drain to prevent melted ice and snow from refreezing, and Gibraltar’s optional arctic heat trace to maintain barrier operation at temperatures well below -20°F.
Scope of work: Conduct a site investigation/ site survey of existing conditions at the Main Gate (Big Delta) ACP and provide a detailed report to include a concept design. Develop and deliver a 65%, 95%, and Final Work Plan to include complete project drawings, specifications, product data, site plans, and other data. Deliver the Issued for Construction drawings and specifications. Remove and dispose of the existing AVB system and install a new electrically operated wedge-type AVB system to include controls, programming, safety devices, battery back-up, cold weather modifications, and warning lights. Conduct Performance Verification Testing (PVT), operations and maintenance training for end-user personnel, and deliver as-built drawings.
After completing construction, PSP was subsequently awarded contracts to perform an opposite-season PVT to demonstrate the cold weather operation of the AVB system and a quarterly preventive maintenance program.
