We coordinated closely with the construction contractor to install and certify the security equipment with minimal impacts to other construction activities.

Scope of work

The work consisted of the installation of two sets of hydraulically-operated Gibraltar finger wedge barriers with associated controls and safety equipment. Civil work to install the barriers was done approximately six months prior to electrical and controls work because of site conditions. The barriers blocked all access to key locations on the construction site, and work had to be closely coordinated with the prime contractor to avoid negative impacts to other subcontractors and work activities.

Install Active Vehicle Barrier System at Fort Greely, Alaska

PSP designed and installed a series of measures to allow for proper operation of the AVB in Fort Greely’s harsh winter environment. PSP’s design included an innovative induced airflow system to prevent frost heave, a heated drain to prevent melted ice and snow from refreezing, and Gibraltar’s optional arctic heat trace to maintain barrier operation at temperatures well below -20°F.

Scope of work

Conduct a site investigation/ site survey of existing conditions at the Main Gate (Big Delta) ACP and provide a detailed report to include a concept design. Develop and deliver a 65%, 95%, and Final Work Plan to include complete project drawings, specifications, product data, site plans, and other data. Deliver the Issued for Construction drawings and specifications. Remove and dispose of the existing AVB system and install a new electrically operated wedge-type AVB system to include controls, programming, safety devices, battery back-up, cold weather modifications, and warning lights. Conduct Performance Verification Testing (PVT), operations and maintenance training for end-user personnel, and deliver as-built drawings. After completing construction, PSP was subsequently awarded contracts to perform an opposite-season PVT to demonstrate the cold weather operation of the AVB system and a quarterly preventive maintenance program.

Upgrade Fort McCoy Main Gate Parking Lot and Vehicle Barriers

PSP was the prime contractor overseeing 13 subcontractors to improve force protection at the Main Gate of the US Army’s Total Force Training Center. Work included demolishing 6 obsolete active vehicle barriers, installing 6 new passive vehicle barriers and 2635’ of passive vehicle barrier, installing a new Visitors’ Control Center parking lot, adjusting the perimeter fenceline, and demolishing existing parking lots.

Scope of work

This project increases physical security measures at the main gate (ACP 2) at Fort McCoy, WI, by upgrading active and passive vehicle barriers (AVB/PVB), reconfiguring the parking lot, and improving overall site conditions. The intent is to improve the installation’s security posture by using PVBs to channel vehicle traffic in the ACP response zone toward final denial AVBs. Specific work activities include the removal of existing AVB systems, the installation of new AVB systems, new post and cable PVB systems, new mast arms, a new overwatch pad, an updated warning sign and signals safety scheme, and infrastructure to support the new systems including new electrical service, new communications service, a new control system. Related work activities include asphalt and concrete sawcutting, excavation, concrete and asphalt placement, trenching, installation of new conduit and pathways, pavement markings, backfill and turf restoration to support security system upgrades.

Various ACP Improvements at Fort Lee, Virginia

PSP designed, provided, and installed new storage buildings at six (6) individual ACPs for the future installation of server equipment, complete with power, fiber optic cable connectivity, masonry finish, HVAC systems, and temperature-dependent emergency alarms. Additionally, PSP provided an overall reconfiguration of the Shop Road ACP location to better facilitate traffic control, ID check point, and vehicle inspection procedures. This work included a new underground vehicle inspection system to enhance the guard force’s ability to search the underside of vehicles, a new drop arm to monitor and control traffic, a new roadway expansion to accommodate large vehicle approach, a new guard booth, and the relocation of an existing guard building to better accommodate security functionality.

Provide and install a new Guard Booth under the existing canopy as an auxiliary inspection facility. Relocate existing Gatehouse building to a new position off the inbound roadway to better facilitate security monitoring and functionality, including electrical power infrastructure and communications connectivity. Demolish and remove two vacant wooden structures and their associated concrete foundation pads. Perform acceptance testing, operations and maintenance training for end-user personnel, and deliver as-built drawings.
